THE RAHAB CENTER: Items coming from the Rahab Center in Bamako, Mali, are made by the women at the Center. The Center is designed to help women seeking freedom from the bondage of prostitution. The Center provides a safe, loving environment that offers practical help, vocational training and education to women wanting to find an honorable way to provide for themselves and their children.
UGANDA: Beads and necklaces from Uganda are made out of colored pages from magazines. The sale of these items goes to help two different groups: women in crisis pregnancies and women caring for AIDS orphans. When both parents die of AIDS, the children are often left on their own, fending for themselves. Neighborhood women are bringing them into their own homes and caring for them. These women make the beads and sell them, using the money to provide for the basic needs of these abandoned children.
TARAHUMARA: Baskets are crafted by the Tarahumara Indians of the Copper Canyon, Mexico, an indigenous people group that has been hidden in the canyon for generations. But malnutrition, disease and a high infant mortality rate has brought some of the people out of the canyon in search of help. The purchase of these baskets helps provide food, medicine, education and the hope of a new life for the Tarahumara Indians.
