Tarahumara Baskets

June 20, 2014

Organization: Tarahumara Baskets

Country: Mexico

MEXICO: The Tarahumara, a group of Indigenous people of the Americas living in the state of Chihuahua, are from the Copper Canyon in Mexico. They were targeted for annihilation and had hidden in the Canyon for generations. But malnutrition, disease and a high infant mortality rate brought some of them out of the Canyon in search of help. Handcrafting woven baskets from pine needles and grasses, the purchase of these products goes to help provide good, medicine, education and the hope of new life for the Tarahumarans.
