How was this product made, you ask? It has quite the journey and story. Vintage saris are brought to the sewing center. After laundering, product patterns are traced and cut by hand, then stitched together using the traditional Kantha stitch. This stitch is from the Bengali word that means “old cloth.” Women in West Bengal, India, and Bangladesh have made Kantha quilts out of their worn sari’s for hundreds of years. Much like the quilts that your own grandmother may have made, these blankets are pieces of art that are cherished for generations. If there is a mistake or a tear in the fabric, a beautiful patch is applied, which makes your item even more unique. All pieces have a name tag stitched onto the product.
